This Health Technician position is located in the Imaging Service at the VA Central CA Healthcare System (VACCHCS), Fresno, CA. The incumbent will perform a wide range of clinical and administrative functions. Major duties include, but are not limited to:
Transports patients and/or charts to and from various sections within facility. Receives and interprets requests/instructions for procedures for medical or health care personnel. Utilizes knowledge to manage potential hazards that may occur due to exams. Maintains sterility of equipment and educates patient to not contact the sterile field. Adheres to hospital infection control and safety policies/techniques with emphasis on sterile technique, the storage of sterile supplies, disposal of body fluids and 'sharps', proper attire, hand-washing practices, and continuing education. Practices radiation safety to reduce exposure by utilizing appropriate safety equipment and processes. Assists and anticipates the needs of the radiologist and technologist. Assists in positioning the patients for a variety of difficult procedures. Receives and directs patients and answers routine inquiries. Independently explains exams to patients in terms the patient will comprehend. Maintains records and files of exams performed on patients, including the registration and editing of patient exams in the computerized information system. Properly identifies patient images. Provides general clerical/administrative support for office, which includes covering front desk and/or scheduling suite during absences and/or for lunch coverage, as needed. Work Schedule:

Not authorized To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Time-In-Grade Requirement:
Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks (1 year) must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position, you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. If you have not held a GS grade at any time in the past 52 weeks (i.e., you are a Wage Grade employee) or you applying under VRA, you are an exception to this rule. NOTE:
If you are an exception to the TIG requirement, you must still meet the below minimum qualifications for the position. GS-06 grade level:
One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. The below experience MUST be detailed on your resume to be found qualified for this position. Specialized experience will typically include but are not limited to the following:
Transports patients and/or charts to and from various sections within facility; Ensures patient care areas are clean and stocked with equipment/supplies; Interprets requests and/or instructions for procedures for medical or health care personnel; Independently explains procedures to patients and helps position patients for a variety of difficult procedures; Maintains sterility of equipment and adheres to infection control and safety policies/techniques; Maintains records and files of exams performed on patients, including the registration and editing of patient exams in the computerized information system. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements:
Work is mostly sedentary; however, walking, standing, bending, stooping and carrying lightweight documents, folders and manuals are required. Walking throughout the Service and within the medical center is required for transporting patients/charts. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
