WHAT DOES A LEAD/TAX EXAMININER TECHNICIAN DO? As a Tax Examining Technician you will ensure the accurate and timely posting, updating, and correcting of Power of Attorney (POA) information. As a Lead/Tax Examininer Technician you will:
Receives researches and processes Power of Attorney (POA) forms to update the Centralized Authorization File (CAF). Perfects and/or completes unprocessable POAs through use of IDRS research command codes, available directories and telephone contact with taxpayers and/or their representatives. Accesses taxpayers master file (entity and tax account) to ensure that all information is entered on the CAF accurately without creating an unpostable action. Revokes authority of representatives on the CAF whenever required by subsequent POA or Taxpayer filings Expeditiously processes special category POAs such as those from the Taxpayer Advocacys Office Code and Edit incoming POAs, batch, order research and assign Source Document Locator Numbers (SDLN) for expedite POAs. Changes and updates taxpayer and representative data as directed. Associates change documents with original SDLN in files. Uses miscellaneous CAF research to verify accuracy of POA input to the CAF; corrects CAF as appropriate. You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Researching and/or initiating actions on tax issues and all required information for correction of accounts and records; Interpreting taxpayer information; Verifying and/or adjusting taxpayer accounts; ensures the accurate and timely posting, updating, and correcting of Power of Attorney (POA) information. -The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part- time work is considered on a prorated basis.-To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week, on your resume.In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following, if applicable:
You must have been at the GS-05 level for 52 weeks (time-in-grade requirement).

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
