WHAT IS THE WAGE AND INVESTMENT DIVISION? The Wage & Investment Division (W&I) serves about 122 million taxpayers who file upwards of 94 million returns each year. Key W&I objectives are to provide high-quality taxpayer assistance, and to enable taxpayers to transact and communicate electronically to file their returns, make payments and receive assistance. W&I partners with private organizations to provide assistance to such disadvantaged groups as elderly and low-income taxpayers. WHAT DOES A MAIL PROCESSING EQUIPMENT OPERATOR DO? Mail Processing Equipment Operators are responsible for operating equipment to package material for distribution where you will independently carry out routine, recurring work assignments and refer deviations, problems, or unfamiliar situations. The work involves operating a variety of equipment where at least one performs multiple functions. The completed work affects the accuracy of further processes performed by related personnel in various organizations and the service to taxpayers. As a Mail Processing Equipment Operator you will:
Set-up, monitor, operate, and adjust a number of and various types of equipment or machines (e.g., carousel, burster, meter, labeler, inkjet, printer, folder, tabber, inserter, strapper, etc.) Perform routine and preventive maintenance and minor repairs. Diagnose and correct equipment malfunctions and operating problems. Maintain production records and generate management information reports. Train others in the use of equipment. GS-05 LEVEL:
You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
knowledge of and experience using operating characteristics of equipment and controls to diagnose, adjust, repair, and operate the equipment or machine and perform preventive maintenance; Knowledge of and experience working with the features, capabilities, and characteristics of several software applications to diagnose and solve some technical processing errors and problems. Your experience should demonstrate knowledge of rules, regulations, guidelines and procedures relating to the production of materials using electronic systems to operate the equipment, schedule work, and solve problems, as well as, record keeping requirements to maintain records. ORYou may substitute education for specialized experience as follows:
A Bachelor's degree or four (4) years of education above high school in any field of study from an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. ORYou may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.-The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
