Job Description The Manager of Shop Operations will be responsible for leading a team of mechanics and technicians across multiple locations, both on our core site and remote sites.
The primary responsibilities of this position are to measure, manage, and optimize the maintenance processes, develop the team, and uphold the highest standards of equipment performance.
The primary responsibility of the candidate will be ultimately up to the Director of Farming Operations, but some duties may include:
o Team Leadership:
Lead, coach, and mentor a team of mechanics and technicians, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, teamwork, and accountability.
o Maintenance Management:
Oversee the maintenance and repair of all farming equipment, including tractors, harvesters, and specialized machinery, ensuring minimal downtime and maximizing equipment efficiency.
o Process Optimization:
Develop and implement maintenance schedules and procedures to optimize equipment performance, reduce maintenance costs, and extend the lifespan of machinery.
o Metrics and Reporting:
Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the effectiveness of maintenance processes.
Regularly report on equipment reliability, maintenance costs, and downtime.
o Budget Management:
Work collaboratively with the Director of Farming Operations to develop and manage the annual maintenance budget, controlling costs while maintaining high-quality standards.
o Safety Compliance:
Ensure that all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations and company policies.
Promote a safety-first culture within the maintenance team.
o Supplier and Vendor Relations:
Manage relationships with equipment suppliers and service providers to source parts, services, and expertise as needed.
o Training and Development:
Identify training needs and provide ongoing training to the maintenance team, keeping them updated on the latest technologies and best practices.
o Inventory Control:
Manage inventory levels of spare parts, tools, and equipment to ensure prompt availability for repairs and maintenance.
o Attend and participate in company meetings.
o Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications o Bi-Lingual English and Spanish; o Proven experience in a similar leadership role in agriculture or heavy machinery maintenance; o Strong knowledge of agricultural equipment and machinery; o Exceptional leadership and team management skills; o Proficiency in developing and implementing maintenance processes and procedures; o Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities; o Strong communication and interpersonal skills; o Budget management and financial acumen; o Commitment to safety and environmental stewardship; o Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time and meet agreed upon deadlines.
Education/Training/Licenses o California Driver's License and a safe driving record; o Trade School degree; o 4-year agricultural degree preferred (Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or related field) or 5-years of shop experience.
